Geraldine Wharry: Inside out seams
28 feb. 2017

Designers take their main reference points from the “unseen” elements in clothing, art and architecture. The focus is on bringing the inside outside and exposing the raw edges of seams, reversing surfaces to reveal garments in the primary essence of their construction. Intentional imperfections which take inspiration from urban decay are celebrated in their raw and rugged beauty.

This direction takes its cue from expressionism and propels it into a photographic, architectural and garment interpretation. This “inside-out” approach results in a variety of skillfully executed surface treatments echoing paint, corrugated metal sheets used for shipping containers and temporary structures.

We also look here to urban environments for photoshoots, wall paint and construction sites inspired by Instagram accounts such as @wallswalls and @andys_eyes.
