Vision 2017: Denim Innovation (Geraldine Wharry)

We've identified key innovation drivers for denim, spurred by our Spring Summer 2017 and Pre-Fall 2017 catwalk analysis.

The possibilities for denim are limitless as new dimensions are explored for:

- garment construction with a d.i.y. hacked workwear appeal

- design details with ruffle placements and extreme fraying

- wash treatments with destruction effects, bleaching and colour gradations

What forms the most compelling design direction is the hacking and subverting of denim workwear classics. Garments appear either customized or convertible with snaps, paneling and reworked pocket placements.

The classic railroad stripe gets a fresh update through colour whilst flowers are blown out of proportion, echoing our 'Oversized Florals' report.
